We Are Best Friends and Best Friends Together AgainBy: Aliki These two books are about two friends who are parted by one moving away. In We Are Best Friends, the boys grieve for one another for a while until they make new friends. These new friends never take the place of their old buddies, but fill a void. The old friends keep in touch through letters, telling each other of their new found friends. This is a great book to read to children who are about to begin new friendships, moving or starting a new school. In Best Friends Together Again, the boys are reunited. Now that the two boys are together the boys learn that while some things have changed, others, happily, have stayed the same.

Leaving means selling the house, abandoning his best friends, and living next to Lake Erie. . . . Hey, didn't that lake catch on fire? Ralph Fletcher’s poems evoke what's hard about moving away as well as what makes moving day, well, maybe, okay.
